FIIAPP will carry out the Delegated Cooperation Project “Support for the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda in Paraguay”
Starting this month and over the coming 41 months, FIIAPP will implement a delegated cooperation programme, the objective of which is to contribute to the sustainable development of Paraguay by promoting and accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
This project complements and gives continuity to the Congreso2030py tool, which tracks, gathers and offers all the information on the activity of the Congress of Paraguay relating to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), implemented with the support of the EUROsociAL + Programme, financed by the EU and also led by the FIIAPP.
Paraguay institutionalised the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in 2016 with the creation of the Inter-Agency Commission on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In 2018, the country presented its first Voluntary National Report (INV, from its initials in Spanish) in order to communicate the progress made since 2016 regarding the SDGs.
In general, the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs are not well-known to the Paraguayan authorities, the private sector, universities, civil society organisations and society in general. This is due to the fact that no measures have been carried out to publicise them and involve the different stakeholders.
Consequently, the European Commission is financing this project to support the challenge of effectively implementing the SDGs and it has appointed FIIAPP to execute the programme: “Support for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in Paraguay.”
In order to promote the effective implementation of the SDGs, the project sets itself two main objectives. One is for the country to have an efficient governance system for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, which includes official statistical data to monitor and evaluate the SDG indicators, and the other is for it to have improved public policies for implementing the 2030 Agenda, in particular SDG 5 (gender equality) and SDGs 13 and 15 (environmental protection).
The project will be carried out with the participation of institutions such as the SDG Commission, the General Directorate for Statistics, Surveys and Censuses, the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development and the Ministry for Women.
In addition, it will collaborate with the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic as a key mechanism in coping with the implementation of the SDGs; and with the Congress of the Republic, the body in charge of exercising legislative power in Paraguay.
Due to its cross-cutting nature, this will be the first FIIAPP programme implemented by two areas for Public Technical Assistance: Economic Development and Environment (DEMA) and Public Administration and Social Affairs (APAS).
