FIIAPP has joined the Global Action Network on Disability (GLAD) that works to mainstream disability in international cooperation
GLAD is a coordinating body that promotes the inclusion of people with disabilities in line with the principles of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and promoting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Since the creation of the network in London in 2015, the number of affiliated organisations has been increasing, to reach the current 34 members, including AECID and FIIAPP.
GLAD is made up of donors and bilateral and multilateral organisations, the private sector and foundations that work together to promote the inclusion of disability within existing global development initiatives, guided by a Steering Committee with two co-chairs: one permanent, from the International Disability Alliance (IDA) Network, and the other rotating, which is currently held by the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID).
Joining GLAD is a big step in FIIAPP’s efforts to further work on development initiatives that include disability, as the Bridging the Gap II project, which is funded by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP.
As consortium leader in this project, FIIAPP was also present at the World Summit on Disability, held last June in Buenos Aires, powering the parallel event “Migration and Disability” which also included representatives from the Eurosocial+ and Evalúa projects.
Likewise, FIIAPP is also supporting the mainstreaming of disability in its daily work, internally, through the training of its employees. To date, about twenty of its workers have participated in a disability awareness workshop (Disability Equality Training). Upcoming training sessions on sensitisation and inclusive communication are already scheduled.
