Migrations, both regional and international, are undergoing historical changes. For this reason, Fundación Carolina (The Carolina Foundation) has brought together a number of experts in migration policies to address the new challenges being posed by the current reality.
The meeting was attended by FIIAPP Director Ana Terrón together with figures such as the Guatemalan sociologist and economist, Rolando Castillo and the Professor of European Law and Migration at the University of Bristol, Diego Acosta.
The seminar provided an opportunity to address issues such as the impact of migration, both for recipient countries and for countries of origin, or the link between migration and development.
The four speakers agreed by emphasizing the importance of addressing strategies for sustainable development that make migration and governance a developmental factor.
On the other hand, Anna Terrón stressed that “the crisis in Venezuela has meant a change in traditional migration relations between the European Union and Latin America“. An example of this is that Spain is, for the first time, a major destination for asylum seekers from Latin America.
The dialogue was moderated by the acting Secretary of State and International Cooperation and for Latin America and the Caribbean, Juan Pablo de La Iglesia.
