The visit took place in the framework of the European project CADAP 7, which aims to combat drugs in Central Asia
FIIAPP received representatives of CARICC (Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Centre for Combating Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and their Precursors) in the framework of the CADAP 7 programme.
The visit was attended by representatives of the action programme against drugs in Central Asia, the Strategy department and also the area of Security, Peace and Development and the COPOLAD programme. During the meeting, emphasis was placed on FIIAPP’s experience in Central Asia in drugs and security programmes. The technical coordinator of CADAP 7, Antonio Miguel González, acknowledged that “CARICC represents a strategic partner in the implementation of CADAP 7 in the Central Asian region”.
Likewise, CARICC Director Rustam Aziz Miralizoda and Azizbek Erkaboe, head of the Information Analysis Unit of the institution, visited the headquarters of CITCO (Intelligence Centre against Terrorism and Organised Crime) where they exchanged data and practices in the fight against drug trafficking in Central Asia and Spain.

In addition, the changing political situation in Afghanistan and its repercussions in relation to the spread of narcotics and new synthetic psychotropic substances from Afghanistan has been a topic of great interest to both sides. Although the number of opiate drug users is decreasing, Erkaboe indicates that “an increase in the number of users of new psychoactive substances is expected”.
