Tarragona and Barcelona were the cities chosen to host the fourth visit by experts from the maritime safety project in Azerbaijan. An international cooperation project managed by the International Cooperation (FIIAPP) aimed at creation of a space for exchanging knowledge and experiences among Spanish, Italian and Azeri experts based on real cases.
The planned itinerary included a visit to the Reus airport, where the group of experts travelled by helicopter to the Casablanca oil platform to gain first-hand knowledge of the activities of the platform. Another planned activity was a visit to the Palau de Justicia of Tarragona. Lastly, the experts were able to learn about the work of the Department of Physical Investigation at the University of Pedralbes.
During these visits, the attendees had the opportunity to share knowledge with authorities from the different prosecutorial and judicial bodies of the provinces of Barcelona and Tarragona, including Prosecutor José Ignacio Monrreal and the President of the Provincial Court of Tarragona, Ángel Sáez Martínez. In these meetings, diverse aspects related to maritime safety were addressed, including prosecution of polluting activities in maritime navigation, the vessel monitoring system, and the exchange of material and technical resources for prosecution of crime in maritime zones.
The Support to the State Maritime Administration to Improve Liability in Maritime Transport project, with a two-year duration, is funded by the European Commission with a budget of €1,164,000 and managed by FIIAPP.
