Angolan authorities visited Spain in order to understand the competences and functioning of public management at the municipal level
Representatives from the “Support for the Local Development Programme” in Angola, funded by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP together with the Social Support Fund (SSF), have just concluded an exchange visit to Spain.
During their stay in our country the General Director of the SSF, Santinho Figueira, and the other representatives from the Provincial Directorates of the SSF learned about the process of organising and running municipal elections in the City Council of León. During this visit, an institutional reception was held by the first deputy mayor and a working meeting took place with municipal statistics and citizen participation technicians to discuss the experience of this municipality in terms of public management at the local level: from municipal elections to the elaboration of the electoral register and the relations between the municipality and the Castilla y León regional government, etc.
They also visited the Organization of Ibero-American States in Madrid to learn about the information and project management system that is currently being implemented in the SSF.
In addition, during the study visit, the biannual review of this delegated cooperation project was carried out, the end of which is scheduled for December. Lastly, taking advantage of the presence of the whole FIIAPP project team, a meeting took place to present the Report on Lessons Learned regarding the project.
The SSF IV project, ongoing since 2015, continues the three previous Social Support Funds (SSF I-III). SSF IV supports the Angolan Government’s decentralisation programme to improve the access to basic public services by families most in need, with the refurbishment or construction of basic infrastructure in the areas that need it most. In addition, it stimulates the economic development of lower income communities and tries to consolidate the institutional capacities of the SSF itself and Angola at the municipal level.
