The meeting, in preparation for the EU-CELAC Summit of Heads of State and Government, was held at the European EESC headquarters in Brussels and brought together over 100 participants.
EUROsociAL presented its actions in the area of social dialogue as inputs.
EUROsociAL participated in the eighth meeting of civil society by presenting the Programme, theresults of its actions in the area of social dialogue, and the main conclusions and recommendations of its publication “Economic and Social Councils in Latin America and the European Union. Practical social dialogue experiences“.
Since 1999, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) has been organizing the meetings of representatives of EU-Latin American and Caribbean civil society at the request of the European Commission. The eighth edition was held in March 2015 in Brussels. These meetings take place every two years, prior to the EU-CELACSummit of Heads of State and Government. They make it possible to develop the dialogue between EU and LAC civil society organizations, promote the strengthening of these organizations, and make the point of view of organized civil society known to heads of state.
The meeting brought together over 100 participants: EESC members, representatives of organized civil society in LAC (Latin America and the Caribbean) and invited speakers. The topics under discussion included climate change, inequality, the informal economy and factors affecting economic development between the two regions.
At the end of the meeting, a final joint statement of recommendations was issued on the topics discussed, which will be presented at the EU-CELAC Summit of Heads of State in June 2015.
The EUROsociAL presentation took place within the framework of the action aimed at strengthening the ESCs or equivalent organizations in Latin America, which is being coordinated by the FIIAPP with its operational partner, the Spanish ESC.
