EUROsociAL coordinated a workshop, presented by the Institute for Tax Studies, aimed at ministers, directors and specialists from Nicaraguan public institutions.
Public servants from the Government of Unity and National Reconciliation participated in two workshops on Budgeting, Planning and Indicators. These workshops were organised in December by the Institute for Tax Studies (IEF) and Uruguay’s Office of Planning and Budgeting (OPP). This action had two fundamental aims: to study the possibility of cooperation with the country in the area of Planning, Budgeting and Assessment, and to train specialists through a workshop based on an exchange of experiences.
There was a presentation on the national experience regarding the formulation and assessment of the Plan for National Human Development, the Budgetary Framework and Medium-Term Spending, and the Integrated System of the Government of Unity and National Reconciliation (SIGRUN). Another major theme was strengthening capacities in planning, budgeting and assessment, as current trends in Latin America in these areas were analysed.
The Minister of Finance and Public Credit, Iván Acosta, expressed his firm decision to “resurrect planning in the country”. The head of Nicaragua’s Ministry of Labour, Alba Luz Torres, emphasised the importance of the issues addressed by Nicaragua, because “they will strengthen the country in the preparation, tracking, monitoring and assessment of our future plans”. In this same line, the general manager of the Nicaraguan Central Bank (BCN), Ovidio Reyes, pointed out that these activities will help improve processes related to challenges, goals, objectives, operational plans, indicators, tracking and monitoring within the planning process.
The activity was promoted by the EUROsociAL programme from its Public Finance area coordinated by FIIAPP.
