As part of the PACCTO 2.0 cooperation program, a mechanism called the "Mexico Window" has been put in place to combat transnational organized crime through an integrated approach.
The “Mexico Window” is an innovative mechanism of the program funded by the European Commission, in which the Delegation of the European Union in Mexico participates. Its objective is to combat transnational organized crime using an integrated approach to strengthen the rule of law, citizen security and stability, both in Latin America and the Caribbean and in Europe.
The official presentation took place in Mexico City and was an opportunity to strengthen ties between Mexican institutions in charge of security and justice in the country, the EU Delegation in Mexico and representatives of EU Member States, as well as international organizations, civil society organizations and private sector actors. The inclusion of all these actors has opened dialogues to understand the security and justice landscape in the country, establish new links and uncover initiatives and programs to combat organized crime.
The “Mexico Window” of EL PACCTO 2.0 promotes EU-Mexico cooperation on issues such as the protection of human rights defenders and journalists, the administration of justice, the structuring of specialized police units and the prevention of violence against women, adolescents, girls and boys. In addition, this mechanism pays special attention to combating human trafficking and child sexual exploitation of the most vulnerable populations, the fight against environmental crimes and trafficking in cultural property.
It also supports the security of prisons, guaranteeing respect for the human rights of persons deprived of their liberty and the possibility of their rehabilitation.
