Europe, the Horn of Africa and Yemen, united against terrorism

As part of the project Application of the Rule of Law in the Horn of Africa and Yemen, which is funded by the European Union with management led by FIIAPP since 2016, a cooperation agreement has been signed between the East Africa Policy Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (EAPCCO, the regional bureau of Interpol for East Africa and FIIAPP. 

The ceremony, which was held in Khartoum (Sudan), was attended by a number of Sudanese police officials, including the chairman of EAPCCO and director-general of the Sudanese Police Force, the director of the INTERPOL Regional Bureau for East Africa and the Spanish ambassador to Sudan, Alberto José Ucelay. The secretary general of FIIAPP, Inmaculada Zamora, accompanied by the team leader and the project’s institutional coordinator, represented the Foundation at the event. 

The agreement signed was the result of ongoing, successful relations with these bodies and formalised the cooperation between FIIAPP and EAPCCO, with the aim of holding joint regional antiterrorist exercises and other activities designed to improve anti-terrorist capabilities in the Horn of Africa. 

In these exercises, whose content will mainly be practical, the participating countries will have the opportunity to jointly train for and implement a wide range of special techniques for investigating and solving terrorist incidents, evaluate their responsiveness and improve their cooperation and interoperability from a regional perspective. 

The project has already collaborated in this type of exercise, both in the design of the scenarios, delivering specialised training, and in evaluating them, which was why anti-terrorism experts from the National Police General Information Office were deployed.
