Through this programme, the director of Gender Mainstreaming in Peru has shared experiences on the gender approach in climate change

The EUROCLIMA+ programme, financed by the European Union and whose Climate Governance component is managed by FIIAPP, is working with the Peruvian Ministry of the Environment (MINAM) and the Peruvian Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations (MIMP) to develop a proposal to mainstream the gender approach in the country’s climate change mitigation and adaptation measures.
In this context, Ivonne Yupanqui Valderrama, director general for Gender Mainstreaming at the MIMP, visited FIIAPP’s headquarters where she presented the challenges for gender mainstreaming in terms of institutional management, planning, human resource management, budget and institutional culture on climate change in Peru.
The MIMP integrates the gender perspective into national climate policies, action plans and other measures, including the processes of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
Among the actions carried out by this ministry, the most important are gender analysis, which facilitates the collection and use of sex-disaggregated data and the strengthening of institutional capacities. These actions seek to advance the promotion of climate policies with a gender perspective and the full participation of women.
