Creation of an energy efficiency calculator for the farming industry facilities of SMEs in Paraguay that use biomass as fuel
FIIAPP, through the regional cooperation programme between Latin America and the European Union on environmental sustainability and climate change, Euroclima+, is supporting the creation of a tool which allows SMEs in Paraguay that use biomass as an energy source to use the fuel more efficiently.
The calculator is accessible to all and makes it possible to carry out a self-diagnosis of energy consumption in production processes and estimate the impact of applying energy efficiency measures. This action promotes energy saving and efficiency in the agro–industrial facilities operated by SMEs that use biomass as the main fuel in their production processes (yerba mate dryers, grain dryers, oil mills, ceramics kilns, and establishments for raising and fattening chickens).
This initiative is part of the “Promotion of Efficient Biomass Use in Paraguay” programme to encourage the productive sector to adopt energy efficiency measures to garner economic, social and environmental benefits.
To ensure participation by SMEs and unions and the use of the calculation tool, a communication and visibility campaign will be carried out in relation to the action. All this will allow Paraguay to keep encouraging the use of clean, energy-efficient technologies, contributing to the consolidation of national actions such as the National Energy Policy 2016-2040 and the mitigation strategy included in the National Climate Change Policy.
