The “Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC)” - project was brought to a successful end in Ankara, Turkey.
The project, aimed at the harmonisation of control of the most polluting sectors, in order to favour Turkey’s integration into the European system, was considered by the Turkish Ministry of the Environment and Urbanisation to be the project with the greatest impact, thanks to the investments it will bring for industry and the reduction in emissions and discharges already associated with it.
At the event to mark the end of the project, the objectives achieved were presented:
– Preparation of the Turkish decree which incorporates the environmental permit requirements established in the European Directive on Industrial Emissions.
– Proposed strategy to implement the new environmental permits system and to grant those permits to the 5,000 industrial facilities affected.
– Support guides to facilitate understanding of the new system, for industries and for the personnel of the Turkish Ministry of the Environment and Urbanisation.
– Technical guides on the best technologies available for 4 key sectors in the country:coal-fired thermal power plants, oil refineries, steel plants and the textile industry.
– Organisation of 4 training programmes in the 4 sectors mentioned above.
– Translation of numerous European technical documents of reference for the implementation of the European Industrial Emissions Directive.
With a budget of €1,425,000, funded by the EU, over 30 months and managed on the ground by César Seoánez, we have achieved all those objectives, bringing environmental control of the main Turkish industries a step closer to Europe.
