The European Twinning project has organised an event together with the Egyptian Patent Office (EGPO) to highlight the importance of patents
Why is it important to educate SMEs and entrepreneurs regarding patents? Protecting innovations through the patent system is essential if companies are to gain competitiveness and break into new markets. An event has been organised around this idea in Cairo within the framework of the European Union-funded Twinning project managed by FIIAPP.
The event was chaired by the president of the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology and was attended by the president of the Egyptian Patent Office (EGPO), the director of the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM)), the director of the Economic Development and Environment area at FIIAPP, representatives of the EU Delegation in Egypt and the Embassies of Spain, Denmark and Germany and the EU institutions participating in the twinning project.
During the event, the balance of the project execution was presented. The event ended with a session entitled: “The importance of patents for SMEs”, in which the CEO of Health Tech for integrated Health Solutions shared his experience with the patent system.
The overall aim of this European Union-funded project is to contribute to the improvement of the Egyptian economy and its scientific research by improving the country’s patent system.
To this end, the application of international standards is promoted in order to improve the institutional, technical and awareness-raising capacities of the EGPO.
The ultimate goal is to increase patent applications by Egyptian inventors, particularly within the scientific community. The programme will be led by specialists from the OEPM in association with its Danish and German counterparts.
