The objective of learning about the Dual Vocational Training Model is to contribute to the development of a new university program to be implemented in three Cuban universities.
Two professors from the University of Sancti Spíritus “José Martí Pérez” in Cuba have traveled to the Basque Country to learn first-hand about the Dual Vocational Training Model. The objective of this study visit is to contribute to the design of the Higher Technician in Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Efficiency, with a competency-based approach, which will be implemented in three Cuban universities next academic year (2024-2025).
The visit has allowed them to know in depth the Dual Vocational Training system in Spain from, among other aspects, training in renewable energy and energy efficiency. With the set of lessons learned, they intend to shape their own professional career in Cuba.
The teachers have expressed their enthusiasm after the visit, noting that it has exceeded their expectations “as we have seen the maturity of the conception of the Basque Vocational Training Model based on competences”. In addition, they have highlighted the clarity of government policies in support of vocational training as a protagonist of industrial, business and social development of the country, as well as the role of the Integrated VET Centers in the co-construction of knowledge and the implementation of active learning methodologies.
This visit has been carried out in the framework of the EU-Cuba Experience Exchange Project for the promotion of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency in Cuba, managed by FIIAPP and financed by the EU. It is expected that the lessons learned will constitute a valuable support for the contextualized transfer of knowledge and good practices to the Cuban reality.
The professors have visited the School of Engineering and the Faculty of Education, Philosophy and Anthropology of the University of the Basque Country (UPV), the Basque Institute of Future Learning (IVAF), the Applied Research Center for Vocational Training (Tknika), both subordinated to the Vice-Ministry of Vocational Training of the Department of Education of the Basque Government, two Integrated Vocational Training Centers in Barakaldo and Usurbil, the Company EFT-systems Renewable Energy and Environment, the Basque Institute of Competitiveness and the Laboratory of Energy and Environment (Orkestra) and ended the visit at the National Reference Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CENIFER) in Pamplona.
