Cuban judges attend a course in commercial matters in Barcelona

The Barcelona Judicial Training School has given this course to Cuban judges specialising in commercial jurisdiction, thanks to the alliance established between the People’s Supreme Court of Cuba and the General Council of the Judiciary of Spain within the Cuba-EU II expert exchange programme, financed by the European Union and led by the FIIAPP. Among other issues, the course has gone in depth with the typology of commercial companies, the resolution of conflicts between partners, their judicial dissolution and international commercial arbitration.   

This course is part of the programme’s objective of accompanying Cuba in the implementation of its socio-economic policy lines, generating important alliances and supporting key public policies and initiatives for the improvement of services to citizens.   

Among the speakers at the course were magistrates and presidents of different sections of the Barcelona Provincial Court and magistrates from Barcelona’s Commercial Courts.  Likewise, as part of this exchange of experts, a visit was organised to the City of Justice in Barcelona, where the processing of the electronic judicial file and the recording of judicial acts were presented, and the delegation was able to see the functionality that this would offer the Cuban courts.  

On the closing day, the Cuban magistrates received the diplomas accrediting the training in a ceremony attended by the Director of the Judicial School, Jorge Jiménez, the Magistrate of the Barcelona Court, José M. Fernández Seijo, and the Cuban Consul, Alain González.  

This action is based on the implementation in Cuba of a process of updating the economic and social model and follows the line of the Constitution of the Republic of Cuba of 2019, which paved the way for the creation of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the country.
