Representatives from the institutions that will implement Cuba’s Energy Support Programme
Several of the institutions that will implement the Cuban Energy Policy Support Programme have met in Havana to sign the terms of reference creating the Programme Management Office (PMO).
The PMO will be the coordinating centre for the programme and the entity responsible to the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment. The objective of this office is to help implement the policy to develop renewable sources and promote the efficient use of energy.
These objectives are intended to guarantee the effective execution of the programme, contributing to the energy sector in Cuba, giving relevance to both renewable energies and energy efficiency objectives, supporting the Cuban government in the efficient and sustainable management of its energy resources.
This programme is divided into three components that will be implemented by FIIAPP, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), together with their corresponding national counterparts: Ministry of Energy and Mines, University of Sancti Spíritus, Unión Eléctrica de Cuba and the National Office for the Rational Use of Energy (ONURE).
FIIAPP is managing the programme’s first component, which focuses on supporting the effective implementation of the policy for the perspective development of renewable energy sources and the efficient use of energy and its regulatory framework.
The Cuba-Renewables project, financed by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP, is part of Cuba’s Energy Support Programme, implemented as a cooperation strategy between the EU and Cuba. The purpose of the project is to support the country’s government in the efficient and sustainable management of its resources.
