The Cooperation Programme between Latin America and the European Union on Drug Policies, being led by FIIAPP, COPOLAD, participated in the event entitled “Evidence-based tools and resources available for CELAC and EU countries”, held at the headquarters of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna. The presentation took place during the 57th Session of the United Nations' Commission on Narcotic Drugs being held in this city from the 17th to the 21st of March.

A delegation from COPOLAD explained in Vienna the actions it has been developing since its founding in 2011, such as the protocols it uses to obtain data related to the supply and demand of narcotics, the training it provides, and the information, experiences and examples of best practices and success stories it exchanges with the countries involved in the programme. COPOLAD’s participation in this event meant taking its place as a reference organization on the panel of expert organizations in the fight against drugs.
This is thefourth consecutive year that COPOLAD has attended the sessions of the United Nations’ Commission on Narcotic Drugs. The objective of these sessions is to adopt global measures aimed at curbing the advance of drug consumption and demand, and combating drug trafficking and the harmful effects this has on public health, society and the economy. The invited guests at the event include representatives of the UN member countries and civil society, and the leading decision-makers in the area of anti-drug legislation.
The COPOLAD programme is being led by the FIIAPP, along with the Government Delegation for the National Drug Plan (PNSD),in collaboration with the Centre for Intelligence against Organised Crime, and is being financed by the European Commission with 6.5 million euros.
