El programa AL-INVEST Verde ha iniciado acciones conjuntas con estos tres países para favorecer el cumplimiento de la normativa europea
AL-INVEST Verde, a European programme that promotes sustainable growth in Latin America, has initiated collaborative actions with Colombia, Argentina and Paraguay to support compliance with the new European Union (EU) deforestation regulation. In Argentina and Paraguay, it has begun work to promote socio-environmental traceability in the beef and leather sector. In Colombia, it has participated in several sessions with experts and will provide assistance for the sustainability of exports.
In Colombia, it has organised with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism (MINCIT) three thematic roundtables to explore actions to help combat deforestation, promote sustainable agri-food systems and due diligence in agro-forestry chains. It will also cooperate with ProColombia, the export promotion agency, to support the transition towards sustainability of Colombian agro-industrial exports to the EU.
In Argentina, it attended the launching event of the action developed with the Government of Santa Fe for the strengthening of public policies on sustainability in the meat sector. Through this action, AL-INVEST Verde will provide support to the technical teams of the Ministry of Production, Science and Technology (MPCT) and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MACC) of the Province of Santa Fe.
In addition, it has carried out a field mission to exchange experiences and discuss socio-environmental traceability in the beef and leather sector in the province of Santa Fe, where it has held meetings with provincial technical teams and with actors from the public and private sector in Santa Fe.
In the case of Paraguay, a joint action has begun with the Investment and Export Network (REDIEX), with the aim of promoting the development of a national strategy for the traceability of the leather production process in the bovine sector, which will allow its certification. Within the framework of this collaboration, a field mission has been carried out to learn about the work of the different links in the leather value chain.
All these actions seek to promote compliance with the European Union’s deforestation regulation in view of its forthcoming entry into force. The aim of this regulation is to minimise the risk of deforestation and forest degradation associated with products that the EU imports or exports.
AL-INVEST Verde is a European Union programme whose main objective is to promote sustainable growth and job creation in Latin America by supporting the transition towards a low-carbon, resource-efficient and more circular economy. Through Component 2, led by FIIAPP in consortium with IILA, the programme provides assistance for strengthening public policy and multi-stakeholder dialogues on sustainable agricultural and value chains, environmental and labour standards, as well as sustainable trade and economic policy and regulatory frameworks.
