The European AL-INVEST Verde programme launches actions to support the Argentinean public sector to promote sustainable exports and trade relations with the European Union
The AL-INVEST Verde programme, which aims to promote sustainable growth and job creation in Latin America, is strengthening its collaboration with the Argentinean public sector by launching three actions aimed at boosting the sustainability of the agro-export sector. In Rosario, the programme presented the second phase of the action for the sustainability of the beef and leather value chain, while in Buenos Aires it organised the launch of two actions: one for the production of bio-inputs and the other aimed at strengthening Argentinean testing and certification laboratories.
Since December 2022, the programme has been working on an action in collaboration with the Government of Santa Fe, which is implemented through the Ministry of Production, Science and Technology, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and the Secretariat for International Cooperation and Regional Integration. Its objective is to position and consolidate the province of Santa Fe in the international market, especially in the European Union, for meat and leather. To this end, the development of a public traceability system for deforestation-free beef and leather is planned, together with the design of an incentive plan to encourage the actors in the chain to join this system.
Along the same lines, he presented in Buenos Aires the technical assistance that the programme will provide to the Ministry of Economy, through the Secretariat of Industry and Productive Development, to improve the analytical capacity of the laboratories that test the attributes required for the export of bovine leather, wood, soya and derivatives and to promote the trade of these products with the European Union. Together with the National Quality Plan, it will support the strengthening of national laboratories, which constitute Argentina’s quality infrastructure, made up of public and private actors.
Both actions will contribute to adding value to Argentinean products and fostering trade relations with Europe, through compliance with various European regulations, including the EU’s Deforestation and Forest Degradation Free Supply Chains Regulation.
The third action will be developed together with Argentina’s National Bioeconomy Directorate to strengthen the production of natural fertilisers and nutrients for agricultural use – the so-called bioinputs – in the country. Through the Italian Council for Research and Analysis of Agricultural Economics (CREA), the capacity of this organisation as a reference centre for the certification and promotion of bioinputs will be supported.
This action promotes the production and adaptation of Argentinean bioinputs to the European strategy “From Farm to Fork”, supports the training of actors in the sector on the requirements and promotes exports to the European market.
