The National Institute for Aerospace Technology (INTA) and the State Space Agency of Ukraine (SSAU) have signed a framework agreement on cooperation in space activities as part of the twinning project that the two institutions are currently implementing, which is being managed by the Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP).

By virtue of this agreement, the SSAU and the INTA are tightening their collaborative links within the twinning project entitled “Strengthening institutional capacity of the State Space Agency of Ukraine in implementing European space programmes in the field of satellite navigation (EGNOS/Galileo) and remote sensing (GMES)”. The purpose of the project is to accompany Ukraine in its immersion into the programmes being developed in this field by the European Union (EU).
The SSAU and the INTA are working together on a project that aims, on the one hand, to incorporate Ukraine into the European Union’s GMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security) system, which will allow it to observe the evolution of harvests, weather conditions in the region and pollution in the Black Sea, and to prevent and detect fires and floods. Another objective of this FIIAPP-managed project is to provide access by this Eastern European country to the Galileo System (the EU global satellite navigation system), as well as to help it draft laws to regulate satellite navigation, remote observation of the Earth and the implementation of aerospace projects with public-private financing.
The agreement signed between the two institutions, among other issues, covers projects, activities and joint research; the development of new technologies; the exchange of experts; the training of specialists; and the organization of seminars, symposia, workshops and presentations.
