Experts from the Spanish General Directorate for Insurance supported the country in harmonising existing regulations in accordance with European Union legislation
Skopje hosted the final closing ceremony of the twinning and harmonisation project between Macedonia and the European Union in the field of insurance and the growth of market operations.
With the idea of enabling full participation in Macedonia’s domestic market for its accession to the EU, the aim of the project, which is financed by the European Commission and managed by FIIAPP, was to align national legislation in this area with European legislation, as well as strengthening administrative and operational capacity. Over 21 months, Spanish experts assisted their Macedonian counterparts in adapting these regulations.
In the second part of the ceremony there was a round table on the experiences and challenges presented by Solvency II, a directive that reinforces the insurance industry on a European level. Participants included representatives from the region, the Head of the International Department of the Spanish General Directorate for Insurance and Pensions (DGSFP) Javier Castillo, and the Head of the Macedonian Insurance Supervision Agency, Klime Poposki.
