The European program has equipped drug clean areas to improve treatments in prisons
30With the aim of improving quality of life and providing an abstinence-oriented service, the European cooperation program, CADAP 7, has supported the implementation of clean zones in prisons in Kyrgyzstan.

CADAP 7 supports drug treatment programs called “Atlantis” in the Kyrgyz prison system. The “Clean Zones” and “Atlantis” centers were introduced within the previous phases of CADAP 7 with financial support from the EU. Trained public health system professionals, social workers, and psychologists work with patients with substance abuse disorders.
In habitable blocks with capacity for 40 people, social workers and psychologists implement these rehabilitation programs.

Since 2006, the CADAP 7 Program has been providing technical assistance to the Kyrgyz prison system to build institutional and technical capacity, improve existing drug demand reduction measures, taking into account the sociodemographic characteristics of the population, its needs, barriers and challenges they face in accessing services. Taking these factors into account helps the Kyrgyz prison system to offer the best possible set of options and options for various vulnerable groups.
