The Chief Prosecutor of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milanko Kajganić has met with the Ambassador of Spain, Mª Teresa Lizaranza, to strengthen judicial cooperation in the framework of EU4JUSTICE.
During the meeting, the Chief Prosecutor presented to the Ambassador the work and results of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, highlighting the international cooperation activities and efforts to work on international and cross-border crime cases, including organized crime and other related crimes. For her part, the Ambassador expressed her appreciation for the efforts made so far ensuring the continued support of the Spanish justice institutions.
The two personalities discussed the alignment of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s judicial system with European Union standards and explored the signing of a bilateral agreement between the State Prosecutor’s Offices of Spain and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The agreement is expected to improve cooperation in the prosecution of organized crime, corruption and other cross-border and international crimes, facilitating more effective communication between the two prosecutors’ offices.
In addition, both countries pledged to promote judicial cooperation activities within the framework of the EU4JUSTICE project, to strengthen the rule of law in Bosnia and Herzegovina and promote international cooperation between judicial institutions in the process of European integration.
EU4JUSTICE: Supporting the fight against organized crime and corruption in Bosnia and Herzegovina is a European cooperation project that supports justice institutions through the exchange of good practices to contribute to the improvement of competences, work processes and tools of the judicial system, in line with European standards and through the following components:
Component 1- Strengthening of the monitoring and evaluation capacities of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC).
Component 2- Strengthening the integrity of the HJPC.
Component 3- Support for the institutional and organizational development of the HJPC.
Component 4- Support for coordination and cooperation within the criminal justice field in the fight against corruption and organized crime.
