The European project that supports the fight against drug trafficking in Bolivia focuses on communication as the tool to raise awareness in the country
In the context of the project to support Bolivian institutions in the fight against drug trafficking and related crimes, financed by the European Union and the AECID, media activities and relations are used with the objective raising awareness of the fight against drug consumption and human trafficking.
“Lights, Camera, Action – Against Drug Consumption and Human Trafficking” is the name of the First Short Film Competition to highlight the prevention and fight against these problems in Bolivia.
The competition is organised by the FIIAPP in coordination with the National Council’s Coordinating Secretariat for the Fight Against Illegal Drug Trafficking (SC-CONALTID), both of which are managing the European project.
Message objectives include contributing to the creation of values and developing a social conscience related to the issues. The idea is to visualise, through the short films, actions to prevent both crimes in order to make it possible for Bolivian society to establish a focus for social commitment.
To do so, two prize categories have been established: “Dziga Vertov: the eye of the camera. Subjectivity as a social weapon for prevention”, with messages focused on personal and individual experience, and “Luis Buñuel: psychology surpassed by sociology”, from a socio-political perspective that focuses on social action and public policies.
Distribution has been coordinated with different institutions linked to the cinematographic world. Through the Cinemateca and as part of a cinema forum scheduled for 26 June, International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking The same films will be shown in neighbourhood cinemas in La Paz and El Alto.
In conjunction with these activities, a journalistic review competition is underway with the same aim of raising awareness. This will require a coordinated effort on the part of public and international entities concerned.
