The idea is to introduce changes in the management and communication of public policies on disability assessment and the country's eligibility criteria.
The Acting Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Affairs of Armenia in the workshop held by SOCIEUX +
The SOCIEUX+ programme, funded by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP, held a workshop in Yerevan to showcase Armenia’s new disability assessment model, its structure and advantages, as well as the institutional conditions and aspects of communication required for change.
In this regard, the acting Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Affairs of Armenia, Zaruhi Batoyan pointed out at the opening of the workshop that the new model of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) is to study the environmental barriers that prevent a person from living a full and independent life. Likewise, it will make recommendations for the services needed to guarantee the greater inclusion of people with a disability in daily life.
The workshop was attended by over 30 people, among which there were representatives from Armenian ministries, health and social welfare professionals, associations of people with disabilities, civil society and international partners.
The reform of the medical model to achieve a biopsychosocial model of disability assessment will restructure policies and practices by creating ICF Disability Evaluation Centres in Armenia.
The ICF reform targets Ministry officials, professionals in medical and rehabilitation organisations, as well as persons with disabilities and their representatives.
This new structure aims to overcome the drawbacks of the current Armenian system by equitably distributing disability benefits and designing the appropriate policies to help this population.
