The project “Strengthening Data Protection in Albania,” which was managed by the FIIAPP, has been chosen as the second best project in the European Projects Awards IPA 2013 competition in the category of completed projects.

The award ceremony will take place on October 7th at the European Parliament in Brussels. 300 projects were considered for this award, which acknowledges the best EU Pre-Entry Instrument projects.
For two years, 20 experts from ten different countries have worked on this project, the main objective of which is to ensure citizens’ right to privacy and personal data protection.
The project has contributed to improving the operations of the Albanian Data Protection Agency by providing technical assistance in two areas: operational procedures and human resources, training, and awareness activities aimed at public administration personnel and citizens.
The project’s main results include:
– The Personal Data Protection Law inAlbania has been reformed.
– Various manuals have been created.
– A training strategy for the Albanian Personal Data Protection Agency has been developed and implemented. Approximately 50 seminars and workshops have been organised on data protection for civil servants including judges, district attorneys, police, lawyers, and notaries.
– A Practical Guide on Data Protection was produced and published for Data Inspectors in Albania.
