Experts from the Egyptian Ministry of Transport visit Adif, Renfe, and the State Railway Safety Agency as part of the project on railway safety funded by the European Commission.
A delegation of experts from the Ministry of Transport and the Egyptian National Railways (ENR) visit Spain to learn how safety is handled in the Spanish railway network. The visit is the first in the Twinning project “Supporting the Egyptian Ministry of Transport in the Implementation of the Railway Safety Management System“. A project managed by the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP) and funded by the European Commission.
During the visit, the Egyptian experts visited Adif, Renfe, and the State Railway Safety Agency in order to learn about the characteristics of the Spanish railway network. Such as the technologies used, how track management is organised, and the human and material resources available to them.
Among other activities, the Egyptian delegation also visited the Traffic Control Centre of the Eastern Sub-Directorate of Maintenance and Operations and Adif’s Technology Training Centre (CFT) in Valencia to see facilities such as simulators and laboratories.
The objective of this two-year project, which is financed with a grant from the European Commission of one million euros, is to improve railway safety in Egypt to reduce railway accidents in the country.
The project, which will include the participation of experts from INECO and from the aforementioned institutions under the Spanish Ministry of Public Works and Transport, comprises three components that cover the regulatory framework, the safety management system and training.
