The SECTRANS-NAS project focuses on improving risk management capabilities when transporting chemical and biological materials by land

Tunisia hosted the launch ceremony of the SECTRANS-NAS project, which is funded by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP, that aims to update legal frameworks and develop capacities and tools to prevent, prepare for and respond to accidents that occur when transporting hazardous goods.
The actions to be undertaken in this project seek to strengthen the capacities of and cooperation between the different actors in the six African countries involved: Tunisia, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Mali, Morocco and Niger. These actions have been developed by the competent authorities in these countries within the framework of the European Union Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Risk Mitigation Centres of Excellence Initiative (EU CBRN CoE).
Moreover, this civil security cooperation programme brings together 61 countries belonging to eight regional centres of excellence in which North Africa and the Sahel are involved. The Association for Development, Education, Law, Training, Art and Security (ADELFAS) and the Military Hygiene and Epidemiology Institute (MIHE) are also participating in the management of this FIIAPP-led project.
Specialists from the six partner countries, representatives from the European Union Delegation, European Union embassies and those from the partner countries attended the project inauguration ceremony.
