Argentina seeks to enrich the development of a strategy that consolidates awareness, training and public participation in the climate agenda

Argentina has held the First Week of Action for Climate Empowerment in Argentina. The event enjoyed the participation of representatives from various of the country’s ministries, for example, from Education, Culture, Labour, Employment and Social Security and Women, Gender and Diversity, among others. Different sectors of civil society also participated, and EUROCLIMA+ also collaborated through the FIIAPP.
The encounter promoted debate with all interested actors (public institutions, academic sector, civil society, political parties, unions, municipalities, indigenous communities, etc.) on how the national climate policy should be structured regarding Action for Climate Empowerment.
At the same time, it investigated how different actors and sectors can collaborate in the design and inclusion of said issue in the National Plan for Adaptation and Mitigation vis-à-vis Climate Change, in the Development Strategy with long-term low emissions and in the National Strategy of Action for Climate Empowerment.
The second of the Republic of Argentina’s NDCs (National Contribution to stop Climate Change) shows an improvement in the basic pillars of action against climate change. In this sense, the fulfilment, strengthening and solidity of the measures depend on coordination, debate and reflection with various actors, both thematic and regional.
This shows the need to promote public policies linked to the components of the Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE), in order to achieve the country vision outlined for 2030, with a vision extended to 2050 considering the commitment to carbon neutrality established by the Argentine Republic during 2020.
During the week the event lasted, interventions in the field of education were prominent, such as that from Yayo Herrero, ACE expert at the FIIAPP and EUROCLIMA+, the programme financed by the European Union. Also relevant was the presentation by Yago Bermejo , an expert in citizen participation, and that by Heike Freire, an expert in education, who spoke about the approach to environmental education. Finally, we highlight the approach made on new perspectives for environmental training by Federico Buyolo. Buyolo was the General Director of the High Commission for the 2030 Agenda between 2018 and 2020, and is currently Deputy Director of the cabinet of the Minister of Education and Vocational Training of Spain.
