A Study on EU-African Migration and Development

The strengthening of ties between the migratory phenomenon and development processes have become a top objective for most African and European countries. It is also a priority issue for the European Union, which has been reflected in its “Global Approach to Migration and Mobility” and in the dialogue initiated with Africa as a whole in addition to West African countries.

In order to help formulate public policies that move this aim forward, the comparative study on“Challenges and Priorities of the Public Administrations in Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Morocco and Senegal on Migration and Development” has just been published.

The study is one of the most outstanding results of the MeDAO project, an initiativeco-financed by the European Commission and the AECID (Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation), and managed by the FIIAPP, the main objective of which is to maximise the positive effects of migration on development by strengthening the capacities of public administrations in four African countries (Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Morocco and Senegal).

The study offers an analysis of the legal and institutional framework of the beneficiary countries in the project emphasizing the main challenges and opportunities found, as well as the outlook for north-south and south-south cooperation in these areas. Furthermore, the study formulates a series of recommendations and guidelines that should help respond to the challenges posed by migration.
