The SEACOP project organized this event to improve communication between the countries affected by the cocaine route

Bogotá has hosted the 2nd transregional meeting of Maritime Intelligence Units in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, with the aim of promoting communication between the different regions and strengthening teamwork to intercept vessels suspected of transporting illicit substances.
This meeting was part of the SEACOP project, which is financed by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP, and projects like UNODOC-WCO. Institutions such as MAOC (N) have participated to coordinate efforts in this fight.
The event was split up into three days. On the first day, various countries presented the progress that has been made so far in relation to seizures.
During the second day, practical workshops were held with a number of simulations leading to an exchange of good practices among peers.
Finally, on the third day the results of the training sessions were presented and the event’s closing ceremony highlighted the importance of continuing to promote spaces for cooperation, communication and exchange of knowledge, encouraging the participant countries to implement the methodologies showcased to make the project sustainable in the short and medium term.
About the project
The SEACOP project began in 2010 in Africa. Over the years, this cooperation project has also been developed in the Latin American and Caribbean regions, thus creating the Intelligence and Maritime Control Units along the cocaine route. These Units cooperate with each other, and it is expected that relations between them will be improved, thus increasing the quality and efficiency in the operations.
