FIIAPP and the SUN Movement gathered representatives from 16 English-speaking African countries in Mombasa to review their N4G progress and set new targets.
The meeting is a key milestone in regional cooperation for nutrition and highlights the shared determination to address malnutrition with multi-sectoral strategies.
More than 90 institutional representatives and civil society assessed, during the two-day workshop, the progress made in meeting nutrition commitments in the region.
“We need to ensure that the commitments we institutions have made translate into real changes and tangible improvements in the lives of all people in their right to nutrition,” said Demeke Mekonnen, the former Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia.
“Through initiatives such as EU4SUN, we strengthen countries’ capacities to develop and implement food security and nutrition priorities and commitments, and support bi-regional advocacy, dialogue and cooperation with a multi-sectoral approach,” said the FIIAPP Secretary General.
“It is an immense privilege to work with these 16 delegations and to have their strong commitment and unity to fight malnutrition,” explained Tendai Gunda, Movimiento SUN representative in Anglophone Africa.
The attendees exchanged experiences, remains and achievements in their efforts to tackle malnutrition through various sessions in which assessment tools, indicators and new commitments made in the run-up to the ‘Nutrition 4 Growth (N4G)‘ Summit to be held in Paris next March were put on the table.
Bringing together nutrition specialists from different countries has been essential to share experiences, best practices and knowledge to jointly address the challenges posed by malnutrition in the region. The meeting facilitated the creation of cooperation networks that enhance results and ensure a comprehensive approach in the policies and strategies implemented.
