Within the framework of the twinning project between the EU and Serbia on fisheries, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Department of the Sea of the Xunta de Galicia have visited several aquaculture farms in the country.
Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) and the Consellería del Mar of the Xunta de Galicia have carried out a visit to several aquaculture farms in Serbia, with the aim of knowing first hand how they work.
The first activity of the Twinning “Development of the national legislation of the fishing sector”, is dedicated to understand the reality of the farms in the country. Thus, the experts have known firsthand the operation of two trout farms and two reaper farms. In an enviable environment, they had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the facilities and talk to the teams in charge.
After two days of listening, observing and asking questions, the group of officials had a much better understanding of the situation of the sector, and in future activities will have a greater capacity to adapt the proposals to the reality of the country.
The event was attended by Julián García Baena, head of the agriculture area, and Raquel López González, head of the technical service of the aquaculture unit of MAPA. Gonzalo López Santos Rubal, director of research and technical scientific support, and Manuel García Tasende, head of the aquaculture innovation service at the Ministry of the Sea, were mobilized on behalf of the Xunta de Galicia.
Twinning “Development of national fisheries legislation in the fisheries sector” is a fundamental step on Serbia’s path towards accession to the European Union. Through the collaboration and commitment of all parties involved, this twinning proposal aims to assist Serbian partner institutions in advancing the harmonization of legal frameworks with the Union acquis in the field of fisheries.
