European experts have provided training on cryptocurrencies to Bolivian civil servants to promote improvements in cybercrime fighting capabilities
The European project to fight drug trafficking in Bolivia has carried out a specialised course on cryptocurrency and virtual values. This training took place in the cities of La Paz and Santa Cruz, which, as the most populated cities and economic and political centres of the country, concentrate a greater interest in the knowledge of cryptocurrencies.
Two European experts from Spain and France, both specialised in cybercrime, participated in the courses. The training has been aimed at public servants belonging to different Bolivian institutions such as the Police, the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Financial Investigation Unit.
During the training, the basic functioning of cryptocurrency, the knowledge of its use and the possibilities that this new technology can provide both in the legal field and its use by criminals and criminal organisations to hide and hinder police investigation were explained.
Knowledge of cryptocurrency is very complex, both because of its technological structure – which requires a high level of expertise in these technologies – and because of its novelty. The high level of expertise of the experts, the use of clear and concise language, as well as an eminently practical approach has allowed for an improvement in the students’ skills in this area.
