INTERPOL’s joint anti-trafficking and anti-smuggling operations

Human trafficking and human smuggling is a scourge that affects millions of women and girls around the world. Recognising the importance of international collaboration in the fight against this crime, the European MCBS Caribbean project, implemented by FIIAPP, works to strengthen INTERPOL units in the Caribbean countries of the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Jamaica to jointly combat this phenomenon.

During the last quarter, through close co-operation between INTERPOL units, a number of joint operations have been carried out aimed at dismantling criminal networks and rescuing victims of human trafficking and smuggling. This joint approach has proven to be highly effective, allowing for an exchange of information and resources that has strengthened the countries’ capacities to address this challenge more forcefully.

“Collaboration is key in the fight against human trafficking and people smuggling,” said Colonel Rafael Feliz, Director of INTERPOL’s Central Bureau in the Dominican Republic. “Project MCBS Caribbean has enabled INTERPOL units in the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Jamaica to join forces and work together to combat this crime. Together we are stronger and can make a real impact on the protection of vulnerable women and girls”.

MCBS Caribbean’s commitment to the protection of the rights of women and girls in the region is unwavering. Through the training and strengthening of INTERPOL units in participating countries, INTERPOL’s response capacity and coordination in the identification, investigation and prosecution of trafficking and human smuggling related crimes has been enhanced.

“We are determined to build a future where all people live free from exploitation,” said the FIIAPP spokesperson. “The MCBS Caribbean project has taken an important step in that direction, bringing us ever closer to a world where human trafficking and smuggling are increasingly a thing of the past.

By strengthening INTERPOL’s capabilities in the Caribbean, it reinforces the capacity to implement joint operations and moves us towards a future where human trafficking and smuggling are eradicated.
