Peru's interior and public ministries sign an agreement to create specialised teams to fight against various crimes

The Peruvian capital, Lima, hosted a ceremony in which the Minister of the Interior, Vicente Romero, and the Public Prosecutor, Patricia Benavides, signed a cooperation agreement between institutions to set up specialised multidisciplinary teams (EMEs). These teams will combat environmental crimes, human trafficking and homicides against members of native communities.
Through the MES, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has committed to work in partnership with the Peruvian National Police in highly complex investigations and in the fight against environmental crimes, human trafficking and crimes of homicide against leaders and members of native communities. It will also facilitate the participation of prosecutors from the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Organised Crime (FERCOR) to strengthen joint investigations with the Peruvian National Police.
For its part, the Ministry of the Interior will provide police personnel to work in coordination with the FERCORs in the fight against the aforementioned crimes. This agreement between institutions is part of the European project “Support in the fight against Illicit Drug Trafficking and Organised Crime“.
The event was attended by the Ambassador of the European Union in Peru, Gaspar Frontini; the Peruvian National Police, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Ministry of the Interior and the ambassadors of Spain, France, Italy and Romania in Peru.
