The European Commission is financing this project, to be managed by FIIAPP over the next 24 months, aimed at reinforcing the Turkish Fisheries Management System to prepare for implementation of the new law defining fisheries policy in Europe. FIIAPP will use Spanish experts from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, who will work with their Turkish counterparts to improve their technical and legal capacities for control of fishing.
This law was reformed recently and places special emphasis on issues of control and surveillance, data collection, and combating illegal, undeclared, and unregulated fishing. Moreover, it underlines the importance of cooperation in data collection activities undertaken by the Member States and third countries with jurisdiction over waters in the same region.
