Madrid hosts looks at social cohesion from 32 Latin American and European countries

The exhibition, which opened in Brussels in June on the occasion of the European Development Days (EDD), is a summary of the 407 entries by women and men (professional and amateur) that were submitted to the photography competition organised between February and May 2022 by the European EUROsociAL+ programme. The project now culminates five years of work on the construction of public policies for cohesion.

The exhibition was created with the aim of achieving a global image around the three fundamental axes on which EUROsociAL+ works: social cohesion, peace and the process of just transition. In fact, as the director of EUROsociAL+, Juan Manuel Santomé, explains, “we seek to obtain a multifaceted view of the social cohesion of both regions through the exchange of images between people and territories, and with a projection of recovery and social reconstruction in the face of the toughest period of the pandemic”.

Peggy Martinello, Director of Public Administration and Social Affairs at the FIIAPP, adds that, through the project, “we have promoted awareness of the current context through the gaze, inviting people to choose the subject, the framing and the light that could best express it in a photograph, and we have found shared questions and problems that also make possible common answers and solutions: crossed gazes around social cohesion”.

The exhibition includes an associated photobook and can be visited from today, 8 September, coinciding with the opening of Madrid Gallery Weekend, promoted by the gallery association Arte Madrid. It will remain open until 22 September, with free admission from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday.
