EU cooperation programme AL INVEST Verde presents the basis of the project for sustainable growth and circular economy in Latin America
The team of the European programme AL INVEST Verde, whose Component 2 is co-managed by FIIAPP, has travelled to Bogotá (Colombia) on a study mission to present the programme and identify the first demands in Latin America. The meeting established the basis for work on the sustainable growth of agri-food chains and towards a low-carbon, resource-efficient and more circular economy.
During the trip they participated in Medellin (Colombia), in the presentation of Component 1 and 2 of the programme at the SMEs Forum Italia América Latina through a workshop entitled “The European Union’s Al INVEST Verde programme, the sustainability of agri-food chains and the circular economy in Latin America” and a subsequent debate.
The workshop was attended by Yamil Abdala Mesa, representing the EU Delegation in Colombia; Gabriel Fernández, Team Leader of Component 1 of AL INVEST Verde; and a panel of experts in sustainability and circular economy, as well as public officials and business representatives from Latin America.
The visit aroused great interest in the programme on the part of the Colombian institutions, with whom they jointly analysed the sustainable transformation processes underway in the country, as well as the challenges they face in terms of protecting their biodiversity, with special attention to forests and deforestation problems.
AL INVEST Verde continues its work with the aim of providing technical assistance and being an instrument to support Latin American governments in the formulation and implementation of national public policies that accelerate the transition processes towards more sustainable production models. The project aims at the effective implementation of environmental standards and sustainable value chains that respect labour rights, as well as the promotion of regional policy dialogue to share best practices in sustainable economic development.
