These representatives of Algerian universities travelled to Castilla y León on an institutional visit to learn about the functioning of the Spanish university system, particularly in Castilla y León, and its scientific trajectory. The initiative by the Ministry of Education of Castilla y León was intended to contribute to cooperation between Spain and Algeria, using education as a way to reduce inequality, make higher education more accessible to everyone and make universities more efficient.
The Spanish university system is enriched by being projected to another country and continent, which in turn shares a system with other partners in the Arab world. Spain’s presence in Algeria is extremely important because of the potential to forge strong academic and institutional ties. The scientific and technological potential of our country is clearly complementary to that of the Algerian university system with unavoidable digital transformation challenges”, explains Antonio Bueno, a professor at the University of Valladolid and the coordinator of the twinning project with FIIAPP.
The trip included visits to the cities of Valladolid, Salamanca and Burgos . The representatives visited universities in three cities, as well as the historical libraries of Valladolid and Salamanca, the Virtual Teaching Centre of the University of Valladolid (VirtUVa) and Burgos.
Through this initiative, Spain, through the Ministry of Education of the Junta de Castilla y León and the FIIAPP, provides experience and training from its universities in three main areas: educational methodology, teacher training and university governance. Algeria contributes its experience, and opens its doors to educational and scientific cooperation with Spanish universities.
The European twinning project to support the Algerian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research aims to reinforce the teaching skills of research teachers and the administration’s management skills. One of the objectives of the project is to implement the Bologna Plan in the country to bring the Algerian educational system more into line with the European model. To contribute to the development of the Algerian economy and promote the creation of a competitive system on a global scale, the project will work with specialists in the field of education and innovation who will analyse and help equip the Algerian Ministry with techniques, methods and tools to reform Higher Education and disseminate the Algerian educational system abroad.
