El Programa de Apoyo a la Implementación de la Agenda 2030 en Paraguay impulsa la elaboración de estadísticas que visibilicen las brechas de género
Information is essential if we are to understand the real situation. To know whether or not things are improving, we need to compare the present with the past. Statistics are essential in understanding and analysing complex situations. It is essential to have data that reflects the situation of women and girls to be able to close gender gaps. Only by knowing the real situation can public policies be adopted to address the problem. Support for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in Paraguay programme, an initiative funded by theEuropean Union and managed by FIIAPP, has been working in this area.
To cover this need, the National Statistics Institute (INE) and the Ministry of Women. (MINMUJER) have launched the 2021-2025 Gender Statistics Strategy. This Strategy, which is supported by the 2030 Agenda Support programme, will make it possible to ascertain the situation of women and visualise critical issues in ensuring their full access to their rights and opportunities.
The strategy prioritises the adoption of the gender approach in the survey and census indicators, improving the quality of the analysis of the administrative records that will make it possible to close gender gaps. There is also a follow-up and monitoring scheme for periodic evaluation of the results.
The strategy will also make it possible to address the gaps that exist between different populations of women. For example, in the field of education, illiteracy of the general female population stands at 4.5%. However, when analysed from an ethnicity standpoint, the rate in indigenous women increases to 38%.
The programme promotes sustainable development in Paraguay by accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the country.
It has two main goals: firstly to ensure that the country has an efficient governance system for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, which includes official statistical data for monitoring and evaluating SDG indicators, and secondly to provide better public policies for application of the 2030 Agenda, particularly SDG 5 (gender equality) and SDGs 13 and 15 (environmental protection).
