Training to encourage investment in renewable energy sources in Cuba

Encouraging investment in renewable energy is a priority for Cuba and has the support of the project to promote renewable energy sources in Cuba, financed by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP. Within the framework of this project, online training has been organised for specialists from several urban administrations.

The current “Policy for the prospective development of renewable sources and the efficient use of energy” that the country is implementing, promotes foreign investment in major renewable energy source projects. In addition, local investment is being promoted in small projects to improve energy efficiency and self-supply of electricity, with most facilities connected to the national electricity grid.

Cuban specialists in the area of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency therefore took part in the “Training in feasibility studies on renewable energy sources” seminar to improve the presentation and approval of Investment Projects in Cuba in this booming field. The course, devised by the University of Vigo, through the FIIAPP Connect Platform, includes 40 hours of theoretical work and practical cases specifically designed to analyse and prepare the preliminary steps necessary to carry out small-scale investment projects.

A total of 31 people, including specialists from Ministries, Business Groups and Universities, will be able to apply the knowledge acquired in their institutions and train other professionals and specialists. Among the participants were the Ministries of Energy and Mines (MINEM), Food Industry (MINAL), Foreign Trade and Investment (INCOMEX) and Tourism (MINTUR), the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television (ICRT), CIMEX , Unión Eléctrica (UNE), Empresa de Ingeniería y Proyecto de la Electricidad (INEL), Cooperativa 3Eadn and the School of Economics of the University of Havana.

The FIIAPP, through this project organised in collaboration with Cuba to promote renewable sources (“Exchange of EU-Cuba experiences for the promotion of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency in Cuba” ) continues to support the Cuban government’s efforts to prioritise increasing the use of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency in the country.
