Cambodia promotes the social rights of people with disabilities

The European Union initiative for social protection, work and employment, SOCIEUX +, supports the National Council for Social Protection of the Kingdom of Cambodia to evaluate social protection policies for people with disabilities through knowledge exchange with the Directorate General for Inequality Policies of the Ministry of Social Rights and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of Spain. 

SOCIEUX+ has mobilised a European team to carry out the mapping and evaluation of social protection policies for people with disabilities in Cambodia, made up of an external collaborator from the WHO functional disability research group and an area head of the Directorate General of Disability Policies. This follows up on the collaboration started in 2020 with the Cambodian National Council for Social Protection, a body in charge of advising, promoting and supervising the development of modern and inclusive social protection systems. 

The team has spent more than two months analysing compliance with the international social protection framework established by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, signed by Cambodia, through a series of interviews with local institutions, international donors and cooperation programmes, among others. 

With this action, it has been possible to share Spanish and European knowledge and experience in the field of social protection and disability, as well as provide a series of recommendations to strengthen the social rights of people with disabilities in Cambodia.  Likewise, FIIAPP’s commitment to improving the lives of citizens is reinforced by promoting inclusive and sustainable development that reinforces the 2030 Agenda and draws attention to the knowledge and experience of Spain, a European benchmark in terms of social protection of people with disabilities. 

SOCIEUX+ is a cooperation initiative funded by the European Union, managed by a European consortium led by Expertise France with the participation of FIIAPP, BELINCOSOC and ENABEL.
