Police intelligence systems to fight drug trafficking in Kyrgyzstan

Within the framework of the EU-ACT cooperation project, the Strategic Planning and Coordination Unit Spain’s National Police  has worked together with the Kyrgyz Ministry of the Interior to strengthen police investigations and combat drug trafficking. Over three years, work has focused on the design and implementation of an intelligence structure to improve criminal investigations through the use of specific software for the control and coordination of information and investigations, and a plan has been drawn up for the full training of analysts and researchers.  

This intelligence strategy will lead to an improvement in the quality of investigations, an increase in their number and the statistical control of police operations, all of which will contribute to a reduction in crime and the possibility of planning and adopting preventive measures. 

To address the use of this new approach, a two-day seminar was held. In this seminar, Spanish specialists who relocated to Kyrgyzstan, presented the conclusions of their three years of work to the country’s Interior Ministry. The proposed model was thoroughly discussed and its implementation approved. 

The implementation of this strategy seeks to increase the efficiency and quality of the work carried out by the security forces and bodies, serving as a guarantor of the protection and defence of human rights and democratic foundations. 

About the project:  

EU-ACT is a  European Union-funded project managed by FIIAPP. Its aim is to transfer the comprehensive and balanced approach of the EU on drugs to improve the efficiency and operational cooperation of the institutions in charge of the fight against drug trafficking, promoting the improvement of institutional synergies for international organised crime.
