The General Secretary of FIIAPP gives a training session at UC3M

Development agencies, international consensus and the Agenda 2030. Students of the 22nd Edition of the Master in International Solidarity Action at the Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M) learned about these and other major topics related to international cooperation from the General Secretary of the FIIAPP, Inma Zamora, who has had a long professional career and has extensive experience in the sector.

The training dealt with the operation of development agencies and, in this regard, the main international pacts, the role of the United Nations, the OECD, the Development Assistance Committee and the European Union. The FIIAPP general secretary explained the role of government agencies in the management and response of European cooperation to COVID 19 to the students. “The European Union has given a forceful response to the pandemic by supporting partner countries and meeting their specific demands through Team Europe,” Inma Zamora explained to the students. She also explained the functioning of DG NEAR, the Commission’s Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations responsible for EU policy on enlargement and the EU’s eastern and southern neighbours, and the Commission’s Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development (DG DEVCO), responsible for designing European international cooperation and development policy and delivering aid throughout the world.

Finally, the General Secretary spoke to the students about the development cooperation system, focusing on the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Public Administration and Policies (FIIAPP).

The Master in International Solidarity Action is the result of a collaboration between the Francisco de Vitoria Institute for International and European Studies, Carlos III University and three NGOs with extensive experience in the application of solidarity policies: Spanish Commission for Refugee Aid (CEAR), CIDEAL Foundation for Cooperation and Research, and the Spanish Red Cross (CRE). The curriculum analyses the central policies, mechanisms and challenges of international solidarity as well as internal solidarity in the areas of migration, international cooperation for development, humanitarian action and social inclusion.
