Europe and Senegal join forces to tackle Covid-19

The Covid-19 pandemic is an international reality that is impacting on health, society and the economy. In addition to the daily battle by health personnel to care for the people affected by this virus, we must recognise the actions taken by all the security forces who, day and night, contribute their presence to preventing the spread of the virus in their mission to enforce the measures implemented by the authorities.

Within the framework of the European cooperation project, SENSEC-UE, which works to strengthen the capacities of Senegal’s internal security services, medical supplies consisting of masks, gloves, hydroalcoholic gel and other instruments have been delivered to promote on-line training, such as computers and software licences.  Likewise, the country has been provided with tools to improve border surveillance and traffic routes consisting of 15 drones destined for police, customs and gendarmerie units.

To deliver the material, an event was held that was attended by senior representatives of the Senegalese administration such as the Minister of the Interior, the High Commander of the National Gendarmerie, the Director General of the National Police, the Director General of Customs and the Director General of the Proximity Security Assistance Agency. On the European side, the event was attended by representatives from the European Union delegation, which finances the project; from the agencies managing the project, CIVIPOL and FIIAPP; and representatives from the embassies of Spain, France, Italy and Germany.
