The project is supporting the countries in the region by strengthening their capacity to deal with Covid-19
The I-CRIME project has organised an activity to support the Institutes of Legal Medicine in SICA countries. The following countries took part in the activity: Honduras, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic and Belize.
During the initiative, the specialists set up a channel for communicating with directors of forensic institutions in the region and countries in the area of interest, which will be kept open continuously.
There were also two videoconferences with the project management team and two support activities were carried out to collect and provide up-to-date information on the situation, how it is developing and systems for responding to the pandemic.
In addition, within the framework of this action, there was a webinar entitled “Facing the crisis of Covid-19 from the Institutes of Legal Medicine”, organised by SICA’s General Secretariat (SG-SICA), through the Directorate of Democratic Security (DSD), and with the cooperation of the European Union (EU) and Spain. The activity was an opportunity to share good practices and lessons learned about the approaches taken to the crisis by countries such as Spain and Costa Rica, from implementation of biosafety guidelines, treatment of people infected with COVID-19 and resource management. The activity had around 170 participants, who included regional managers of forensic institutions.
At the same time, there have been several videoconferences, where specialists have been invited to discuss issues such as workplace risks in the autopsy room related to Covid-19 and corpse management during the pandemic.

I-CRIME is financed by the European Union, coordinated by SICA’s General Secretariat (SG-SICA) and is divided into 4 results, two of which are managed by FIIAPP and the JCI and the other two are managed by the AECID.
