A-TIPSOM has delivered sanitary materials and food to vulnerable victims of trafficking and people smuggling in an effort not to leave anyone behind
Under the A-TIPSOM project, Action against HumanTrafficking and the Smuggling of Migrants in Nigeria, FIIAPP has delivered personal protective equipment, food and disinfection and hygiene products for the protection of victims of trafficking and people smuggling housed in shelters operated by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the Network of Civil Society Organization Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL) .
This aid responds to the request that NAPTIP made to the Delegation of the European Union to Nigeria, an entity that finances the A-TIPSOM project, after identifying the most urgent needs of victims of trafficking during the lockdown caused by COVID19.
The support, given this time by FIIAPP, is part of one of the project’s lines of work regarding the protection of victims. This donation, which includes food, toiletries, disinfectants, gloves and masks, is part of the European Union’s efforts to maintain its support for the most vulnerable people in Nigeria, especially in the current context. The distribution of these articles is intended to help prevent or reduce the spread of COVID19 among victims of trafficking and people smuggling who are staying in shelters during the pandemic.
The event was attended by the European Union Ambassador for Nigeria and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) , Ketil Karlsen, and the Director General of NAPTIP, Dame Julie Okah-Donli. Both highlighted the importance of supporting victims of trafficking and people smuggling who are in a particularly vulnerable situation and gave thanks for and recognised the work of FIIAPP in the implementation of the A-TIPSOM project in the country.
