Myanmar police are now better prepared to fight coronavirus with gloves, masks and hand sanitiser

MYPOL has donated protective equipment to the Myanmar Police (MPF) to help fight COVID-19. The delivery was made at the Yangon Police Headquarters and consisted of medical equipment worth more than €11,000, consisting of 9,000 disposable gloves, 25,000 masks and 1,400 bottles of hand sanitiser.
The donated material will help Yangon’s police continue to safely interact with the country’s citizens, preventing the spread of COVID-19. These supplies will also allow people visiting police stations to feel safer and not be afraid to report crimes.
With this initiative, MYPOL reinforces its approach to community policing, in which it encourages the MPF to work closely with the population in order to help prevent and solve crimes.
The Yangon Region Police Force Commander, Brigadier General Myo Min Htike, accepted the donation on behalf of the MPF, along with Col. Zaw Min Oo, Lt. Col. Thein Lwin, and Lt. Col. Yu Naing. The MPF thanked MYPOL for the donation and said it will allow them to fulfil their obligations.
MYPOL is a cooperation project funded by the European Union and jointly managed by FIIAPP, which works to help the MPF become a modern police service focused on international best practices and respect for human rights. The project works directly with the MPF by conducting training sessions, providing experience and advising on how to modernise different aspects of surveillance.
During the ongoing health crisis posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, MYPOL will continue to work with the MPF, as well as with Parliament, civil society organisations and the media, to help Myanmar meet the challenges thrown up by the pandemic and ensure that everyone is kept safe and healthy.
